Turn a screen recording into a walkthrough video

Relo turns a raw screen recording into a product walkthrough video: attach the capture, say what it teaches, and it adds zooms on each action, a callout and a numbered step for each moment, captions and an optional AI voiceover.

A screen capture turned into a guide by Relo, with zooms and numbered steps.

In brief:

  • What you give it: a raw screen capture of one task, and a sentence about what it teaches.
  • What you get: a framed walkthrough with zooms on each action, a callout and a numbered step for each moment, and captions.
  • Optional: an AI voiceover written from your brief (+10 credits), or keep your own narration.
  • Cost: 35 credits for the video and 10 per render.

Why turn a screen recording into a walkthrough video?

A raw screen recording shows the whole window at once: a small cursor, text too small to read on a phone, and no sign of what matters. Viewers can't tell where to look, so they stop watching. A walkthrough directs attention: at each moment it zooms in on the action, labels what just happened and shows which step you're on.

How do you turn a screen recording into a video with Relo?

  1. Choose Screen recording in the mode menu and attach your capture.
  2. Say what the video teaches in a sentence, for example "How to send your first invoice in Ledgerly, in four steps".
  3. Watch the draft. Relo watches the recording, picks the moments to zoom into, and adds a callout and a numbered step for each.
  4. Ask for changes in plain words: "Zoom in more on the Send button", "Rename step 2 to Add your client".
  5. Render in 16:9 for help centres and YouTube, or 9:16 to post it on social.

How do you record a screen well?

  • Show one task. "Create your first invoice" is a walkthrough; "a tour of everything" is not.
  • Clean the screen. Close other tabs, hide notifications, and use demo data instead of real customer data.
  • Move slowly. Pause for a second after each click so there's time to zoom in on it.
  • Zoom the browser to 110–125% so text stays readable on a phone.
  • Keep it short: 30 seconds to two minutes of raw recording per task.

Any recorder works: macOS Screenshot (Shift-Command-5), Windows Snipping Tool, or a browser extension. The full walkthrough guide covers each step in more detail.

What does a good walkthrough include?

ElementWhy it matters
A framed window on a clean stageThe product looks finished and the desktop edges disappear
A zoom on each key actionThe click fills the screen, so it's readable on a phone
A callout at the point of actionA short label says what's happening
Numbered stepsThe viewer knows how far through the task they are
CaptionsIt works with the sound off

Where do walkthrough videos work best?

  • Onboarding: in the welcome email or the empty state of a new account.
  • Help centre articles: one video per task, next to the written steps.
  • Feature launches: the new feature in use, not a description of it.
  • Sales follow-ups: the exact workflow a prospect asked about.

What does it cost?

35 credits for the video and 10 per final render. An AI voiceover adds 10 credits, or 20 in your own cloned voice. Captions are free. New accounts get 100 credits free; see pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to edit the recording first?

No. Attach the raw capture; Relo watches it and picks the moments to zoom into. A steady, clean recording gives the best result.

Which recorder should I use?

Any: macOS Screenshot (Shift-Command-5), Windows Snipping Tool or a browser extension. Record one task, pause after each click and zoom the browser to 110–125%.

Can I keep my own narration?

Yes. Keep your audio and Relo adds zooms, callouts and captions around it, or mute it and add an AI voiceover for 10 credits.

How much does it cost?

35 credits for the video and 10 per render, plus 10 if you add an AI voiceover. Captions are free.

How long should the walkthrough be?

One task per video, 30 seconds to two minutes. Several short videos work better than one long tour.
